Root Canal Therapy in Woodland Hills CA

Root Canal TherapyMany patients don’t realize that when you need a root canal, it is due to an infection inside your tooth or at your root near your nerve. The pain that comes with your condition causes root canals to have a bad reputation. The truth, however, is that root canals can save your tooth and relieve your symptoms when addressed at an early stage.

Symptoms that can indicate that you need a root canal may include swelling, pain, sensitivity to hot and cold, a small pimple-like eruption on your gums, discoloration, and the feeling of pressure.

How Root Canals Work

The first step to any treatment is making a diagnosis. If you are experiencing pain, call our office right away for an evaluation. Putting it off often means your pain will increase and you may even lose your tooth. We see emergency patients on the same day. That means we can get you the answers you need quickly and start your road to recovery, even if you have never been to our office before.

When you come to our Woodland Hills, CA dental office, we will take a digital x-ray of the affected area to determine the cause of your pain. Many times, we can diagnose an infected tooth with an x-ray alone. We can also perform additional testing to determine your condition.

Once we establish a diagnosis, Dr. Bobby Irani will prepare you for your procedure by applying anesthetic to your tooth so that you remain completely comfortable. He will make a small access into the internal chamber of your tooth, called the pulp. Next, he will gently remove any signs of infection along with any diseased tissue so that your infection can heal. He may choose to apply medication to help the healing process and prevent re-infection.

Until you heal completely, we will seal your tooth with a temporary restoration. Your body will take over the healing process, and we will re-evaluate your condition in a couple of weeks to make sure you are back on track to good health!

After Your Root Canal Therapy

Once Dr. Irani determines your root canal has healed, we will make plans to place a permanent restoration to protect your tooth after treatment. Root canal therapy will cause your tooth to become more brittle, so an appropriate restoration is essential.

In some cases, a tooth-colored filling will do the trick. In other cases, especially for your molars that absorb much of the force from day-to-day chewing, a dental crown will provide you with greater protection and protect your tooth from further damage.
